Customer Q&A
Is cleaning and sanitizing the only maintenance I'll need? Are there multiple types of filters needed or just one? Also, when we use the clean cycle, does this take the cleanser through the system itself? How do the internal components get cleaned? We want to be assured that cleaning is being done not only in the ice machine bin but internally.
The manual for the Atosa Atosa YR280-AP-161 ice machine can be found in the resources section on this page (maintenance starting on page 12). Most places with an ice machine will work with a local service company and set up a preventative maintenance schedule. The service company will then clean the inside and outside of the machine, inspect for any parts that are likely going to need to be replaced soon, and test that the unit is functioning within all its parameters. Here (external link) is a good place to start finding a local service company. As far as hard water, it absolutely matters with ice machines. Not only will hard water create build-up in the hoses and pumps that can stop them from functioning, but the hard water can create a layer over the surfaces inside the machine and allow bacteria to grow (this goes for any ice machine). No one likes slimy ice machines. There are also some manufacturers that will void the warranty on a machine if hard water usage with no filter was found. We would recommend at least a carbon block filter that is built to remove scale like the 3M ICE120-S (product link). You may also want to use a pre-filter system, depending on your local water quality.
