Customer Q&A
Why doesn't my tank look shiny like stainless steel looks more grayish?
The fry tank on the Pitco 40D is made of stainless steel, the same as the front and door of the unit. I go into more detail below if you're interested, but the basics of it are that some stainless steel is shiny and some is matte (like your fry tank) based on the process the stainless steel manufacturer uses for that batch. Most shiny metals, like you see on a stainless steel refrigerator or a stainless steel sink, or even jewelry, have been "finished" a certain way to make them shine while the metal was still being manufactured and well before being bent into a refrigerator door or sink. Stainless in particular can be both highly polished and still matte or discolored. A good, quick blog I found online that explains stainless finishes is here, from Ryerson Metal Processing; (external link)
